Employment services

Recent changes to what was the Commonwealth Employment Service (CES), have left many Peninsula residents and employers confused as to what to do about finding a job or where to list vacancies.

The Peninsula still has a Centrelink office at Ettalong where part of the work done by the old CES is still being performed as well as some of the work of the previous Department of Social Security. This is where anyone looking for work should first register.

However, to supplement this, there are also three major employment agencies on the Peninsula. These agencies provide a wide variety of free services for people looking for work as well as for employers.

The agencies are Employment National at Ettalong, ET Australia at Woy Woy and Mission Employment at Ettalong.

All these services aim to offer both employers and prospective employees a high level of service and assistance.

In addition to these, the NSW Department of Education and Training can arrange apprenticeships and traineeships on the Peninsula through Umina resident Steve Cummings, who works from the department's New Apprenticeship Centre at Chatwood.

Steve can help identify the most suitable traineeship or apprenticeship, advise on benefits available and access information about traineeship and apprenticeship programs.

He can help with the paperwork to register a trainee or apprentice as well as that required to claim government financial incentives.

He can also source appropriate training.
