The hapless plight of the refugees from Kosovo parallels that of the Jews in Nazi Germany and territories prior to 1941.

The Nazis were content enough to force these people out until the world closed its borders to them, and this is when the exterminations began in earnest.

If ever there was a case for helping genuine refugees then this is it.

Australia, to its credit, took proportionally more Jewish refugees than most countries prior to the outbreak of war, and there would be many descendants of these people living on the Peninsula today.

We need to do more than pay lip service to our ideals of mateship and giving the battler a fair go.

Perhaps, through your paper, you could compile a list of those on the Peninsula who would be willing to billet some of these people, should the Federal Government ever consider this option in the future.
