Fishing News

Some good catches of bream and whiting have been reported off the bars at Woy Woy, Brickwharf Channel, Paddy’s Channel and the Woy Woy Railway Bridge.

The first two hours of the run-up tide have been the most productive. Best reported baits are chicken gut, mullet gut and prawns.

Large catches of leather jacket have also been reported at the Rip Bridge. Mainly fishing on a 1.1m to 1.3m high tide.

This enables the angler to fish the full length of the tide both in and out, as the rip runs very strongly on larger tides. Best bait was prawns that are lightly salted 30 minutes before use.

"Mike the Mud Crabber" reveals that a few muddies are still coming in, but with the water temperature slowly dropping due to change of season, there are only a few weeks left to catch these bruisers before they hibernate.

Outside

Good catches of salmon and tailor have been reported off Putty Beach, with a spotted mackerel mixed in as well.

Best bait has been a full pilchard on a set of 5/0 ganged hooks. Cast the awaiting bait , then slowly retrieve.

Good catches of drummer have been reported off Copacabana, Avoca, Winnie Bay and Macmasters.

Best baits hooking up have been cunjevoi, abalone gut and shelled prawns, burleying with bread soaked in water beforehand.

For all the manic outside anglers, Schnapper up to 5 kgs have been coming in wide off Broken Bay - just watch then current as this plays an important part out there.
