Rehearsals are well under way for the fifth annual concert of the Peninsula Choir and the Gosford City Band.
A program of light popular music, including music from the movie Titanic and The Phantom of the Opera will be included.
The choir, formerly known as the Combined Churches Choir, started in 1987 when the Anglican Parish Choir, the Uniting Church Choir of the Peninsula combine with the Seaside Choir of Terrigal to present Stainer's "Crucifixion".
When the Anglican and Uniting Churches combined on the Peninsula, it was known as the Peninsula Churches Choir.
The choir grew to include interested members of the community and has been known for some years as the Peninsula Choir.
It included singers from the areas as far afield as Lake Munmorah, East Gosford, Pearl Beach and Point Clare.
The choir currently has 35 members.
As well as cantatas at Easter and Christmas in local churches, lighter programs are performed in nursing homes by invitation.
Any money raised from these concerts goes to charity.
Over the years, the choir has given donations to both the Patonga and Bays Bush Fire Brigades, the Caravan Ministry and the religious instruction teachers at Umina and Woy Woy High Schools.
