Winning performance

Thirteen year old Peninsula girl Laura Haddadi has won prizes in the 1999 McDonald’s City of Sydney Performing Arts Challenge this month.
She won second prize for Recital in Costume and third prize for Impromptu Speech.
The Challenge is the largest competitive festival of its kind in the world, with a broad range of events to encourage development of artistic, elocutionary and creative skills.
It offers a platform for the qualified assessment of ability and nurtures an interest in the arts.
First held in 1933 as the City of Sydney Eisteddford, the name was changed in 1993 to keep pace with Australia’s changing cultural environment.
The event draws entries from contestants throughout New South Wales and is highly competitive.
Laura is a member of the Peninsula Dance and Theatre School and is trained by Margaret Denman at the Peninsula Community Centre.
The school did extremely well overall and principal Angela Denman was extremely proud of the overall results achieved.
