Focus on bullying

Earlier this term, both Year 8 and Year 9 students from Woy Woy High were invited to attend a play "The Hurting Game" as part of their work focussing on bullying and harassment.
"The Hurting Game" is about friendship, what we need from our friends and what happens when our friends don't behave in a friendly fashion.
It is about two friends and looks at when they get older and how outside influences and other kids can have an impact on friendship.
Through humorous and dramatic role plays it shows how to overcome the aggression and thoughtlessness, increase student's confidence and learn to listen and support one another.
"The Hurting Game" is a Brainstorm Production and they have won the NSW Performing Arts Frater Award in 1996, 1997, and 1998 for best feedback from schools' category.
The Domestic Violence Unit from Central Coast Health sponsored the show to allow the students to see the performance.
For Year 8 students, this forms part of their welfare program for the year.
They saw this play, then attended a series of workshops over the term looking at various bullying and harassment issues.
This program culminates with another production "Sticks and Stones" at the end of this term.
Year 9 saw the play, following up on last year's "Sticks and Stones" performance, for no charge.

These productions and workshops are of great benefit to students, form a vital part of their education and should not be missed.
