Gosford Council has issued its progress report for projects undertaken as part of its Financial Strategy and as other special projects.

Eight of the 16 projects, all with advisory committees, concern projects on the Peninsula.

More than $8 million will be spent on the Peninsula on the following projects:

Woy Woy Branch Library extensions are planned to a cost of $980,000.

Concept plans have been completed. Investigation into ways of preserving the heritage value of the existing building is in progress.

The committee consists of Crs Whalan, McGowan, Sansom and Brooks, other interested councillors and library services manager Mr Alan Flores.

Peninsula Youth and Recreation Centre ($1.5 million) was initially constituted with a committee comprising Community Centre representatives Mike Harrold and Vicki Shields, resident representative Dion Richardson, Crs Bockholt, Penton and Holstein, interested councillors and two council officers.

The committee has since reconstituted into two groups, one to deal with the Peninsula Community Centre and the other the Youth Recreation Centre.

Draft concept plans have been completed, with a survey of the Woy Woy pool site.

Consultants have been appointed to undertake a feasibility study, which will result in a plan which will address management options and the facility mix.

Peninsula Community Centre ($1.25 million) project includes renovation of the existing building and providing facilities for the Woy Woy Little Theatre as a separate building.

The community centre is providing a brief for use by the architect.

Umina SEC Site ($500,000) stage one works started in May 1998, with the support of the Work for the Dole Scheme.

A "sunset" committee which included representatives of youth groups as well as councillors was expected to hand over management of the project to the PCYC after its annual meeting in February.

Ettalong Beach Central Business District (CBD) streetscaping works costing $1 million are scheduled for completion this month.

The committee consisted of Crs Bockholt, Penton and other interested councillors, David Sloane, Hugh Findlay, Ron Clifton, Tony O'Neil, Jim Bohle, Tony McPhee, Rex Chapman, Matthew Wales, Debra Wales, Joan Chapman, Peter Hale and council officers Geoff Bent and John Cragg.

Umina CBD ($1.5 million) draft concept plans were exhibited at the end of last year.

Construction is scheduled to start in May and end in August.

The committee has been Cr Penton and interested councillors, Ian Radford, Ken Hoste, Greg Sandell, Vicki Hanson, Cathy Hunter, Jill Bignall, Bruce Croft, Jan Wall, Liam Campbell, Barbara Ketley, Debra Wales and council officers Geoff Bent and John Cragg.

Woy Woy CBD ($1.5 million) draft concept plans were exhibited at the end of last year.

Plans include a mangrove boardwalk along the water from the wharf at Woy Woy to the bridge, which is subject to a grant application to the Department of Land and Water Conservation.

Construction of the other works is scheduled to start in May and finish in August.

The committee is Cr Bockholt and interested councillors, Bob Knowles, Tim Peters, Heather McKenzie, Joan Fenton, Christine Burge, Ken Dyer, Janet Matthews, David Chandler, Merv Clayton, Warren Cross, Mark Snell, Debra Wales and council officers Geoff Bent and John Cragg.

In addition to these Financial Strategy projects, Gosford Council has established a "sunset" committee to deal with the Fast Ferry project.

The role of the committee, comprising primarily Ettalong representatives, includes addressing community impact issues.
