A visit to the new Cinema Paradiso at Ettalong has left one of this paper’s reporters, Carl Spears, impressed.

Australians were one of the first people to take on the innovation of cinematography late last century, and we continue to enjoy a night at the movies.

My partner and I are no exception and providing the movie is a good one, an entertaining time ensues.

Having decided to see Peter Weir’s, The Truman Show, we were delighted to notice it at the new Cinema Paradiso.

Thank heavens. Nice and close so no need to travel far.

The cinema is such a nice change from what one comes to expect that we would now gladly travel a longish distances to see a film at this cinema.

The cinema’s well planned layout leads me to think of the decor and concepts of the old local cinema before the advent of the large chains.

I found the decor to be simple but refreshing and according to my personal taste, only occasionally mismatched in style.

The auditorium has well elevated rows, which means all can see the screen over the top of those in the row in front. Private viewing boxes can be hired for that special occasion.

Another outstanding feature includes a baby crying room where parents can take babies who do not wish to watch the movie, allowing others to enjoy the movie.

By the end of the movie, the only things to disappoint were the lack of fellow moviegoers for a Sunday night and a toilet door that refused to be locked easily.

However, the owners are to be congratulated. This is a bold venture that is close enough to be perfect that I thoroughly recommend a visit.

Rating for the cinema: four ½ stars out of five.

Oh, by the way, the movie was very enjoyable.

Post Script: The cinema has been indefinitely closed due to an apparent lack of fire safety precautions.
