Change proposed to crossing status |
A pedestrian crossing on Barrenjoey Rd, Ettalong Beach, may be "upgraded" to a children's crossing, following a recommendation from council's traffic committee.
Painted zig zag lines may also be provided on the approach to the crossing if the motion is passed by council at its September 5 meeting.
The Ettalong Public School P&C Association asked that the existing crossing be upgraded to a children's crossing through the use of transverse lines, white stop lines and poles to hold children's crossing flags.
The installation of the stop line would mean that vehicles would stop six metres from the linemarked pedestrian crossing.
A council staff report stated that the presence of the posts and flags would also draw motorists' attention that the crossing operates as a children's crossing at school start and finish times.
The school also asked for painted zigzag lines on the approach to the crossing.
The report stated that, generally, zigzag markings were only provided as a supplementary warning device at pedestrian crossings where sight distance was inadequate, but that in view of the traffic speed along part of Barrenjoey Rd "it would be appropriate to provide zigzag markings as a supplementary warning device at this location".
