Another reason to remember

On Monday November 11 this year, we all observed Armistice Day.

On that day in 1918, the First World War ended.

We remembered those who died in war for our country.

November 11 is also to be remembered for another important reason.

It was on that day in 2002 that residents in Woy Woy and Ettalong Beach received letters from Gosford City Council to acquire their properties for open space purposes.

All councillors are to be condemned for subjecting residents, many of whom are elderly, to four weeks of uncertainty and anxiety of not knowing what will happen to their homes.

The comments made by the Manager of Land Use Planning that "Council could consider compulsory acquisition in the future if necessary" have not helped the matter.

The very idea of acquiring 140 properties for open space has been a despicable act by Gosford Council.

These are people's homes.

The only reason that Gosford Council has now done a back flip on its land grab proposal was because of the rage directed at council by residents, adverse publicity in the media, and the pressure put on council by the local State Member of Parliament, who has given residents enormous support.

Residents will not forget what has happened.
