Council drops a bombshell

As I am sure you are aware by now, Gosford Council dropped a bombshell on 140 residents of the Peninsula last Wednesday informing them of a proposal to acquire their homes for open space purposes.

Our home is on the hit list and I am very reluctant to believe all this land will be used for recreational purposes when it is being funded by developers.

After all, doesn't council still need to solve the problem of parking for approximately 500 cars in Ettalong for the fast ferry service?

Doesn't it just seem a little too convenient that they wish to acquire the whole block right across the road from the proposed wharf development?

We along with many other residents were devastated by this letter and believe it has already affected the value of our homes.

Upon reading the draft (section 94 contributions plan 31C amendment 1), a statement is made about this being necessary to benefit the community by providing more recreational area.

Are we not part of the community? How does it benefit us when we are faced with losing our homes?

Council is giving developers a free hand on the Peninsula, allowing every vacated home to be snapped up and quickly replaced with three or four villas or townhouses increasing the amount of ratepayers but also increasing the strain on our essential services.

Is it council's plan to rid the area entirely of single dwellings replacing them with high rise units and medium density housing?
