Student input sought on review

Brisbane Water Secondary College Woy Woy campus staff have been working to implement the recommendations of their program review of teaching and learning in Years 10, 11 and 12 held during term two this year.

Staff set up project teams for each of the main areas that required some action.

Some of these teams have almost completed their task, including the literacy, library and technology teams.

They still have some way to go on student welfare, the review of executive roles and responsibilities, and procedures.

They are at the stage in almost every case where some student input into the process is needed and will be seeking this input over the next few weeks.

Principal Ms Carolyn Carter said: "One very important issue for a senior campus is developing a set of shared beliefs to underpin our senior welfare and discipline policy.

"I'm sure we would all agree that we need to have rules and consequences, but these need to be based on some beliefs about how best we might all relate to each other to enable us to focus on our quest to excel in learning and have success in learning," Ms Carter said.

"Think of the classes where students and the teacher just get on with learning rather than having arguments with each other and/or the teacher.

"Then, try and work out what is it about the relationships in the group - student/student and student/teacher - that creates this positive working relationship.

"I think that will give you the answer."
