Umina Rotary awards Vampire Cup |
The Rotary Club of Umina Beach has awarded its "Vampire Cup" to the West Gosford Rotary Club.
The Vampire Cup is a perpetual trophy awarded each year to the Rotary club which has the most members donating blood during September and October.
The Umina club challenged clubs across the Central Coast to join in the challenge.
Rotarians from the clubs were encouraged to visit Blood Banks at Gosford, Wyong and Woy Woy throughout September and October.
Each visit was recorded by Blood Bank staff on a special tally sheet.
West Gosford recorded the most donations with 22 members donating.
The winning club also receives a dozen bottles of wine.
Only three per cent of the Australian population donates blood, while 80 per cent will use blood or a blood product at some stage of their life, according to the Umina club.
Anyone wishing to donate blood should call 131 495 to arrange an appointment.
